Nightmare Before Christmas Mugs

In September of 2009 I was working on NBC product for Fall 2010, and I proposed this figural mug idea for Jack and Sally mugs. Once it got the go-ahead, I created the art, color and size specifications for the sculptor to follow. The sculptor overseas did a great job - and now, almost a year later, they're in the store! I'm biased, but I think they came out just great. This is truly the thrill of my job: having an idea, and then having that idea become real product. Fun!

Danny,
Amazing to see your ideas--from sketches, spec sheets and the final products! I am so excited for you!! Keep those creative juices flowing.

Wow! Very cool! How rewarding to get your 2D artwork translated to 3D! Did you create the artwork shown on the spec sheet? The front and side views look like photos of the finished item but maybe those are computer-generated 3D images? Just wondering.

Thanks Ramona! I appreciate you stopping by the blog! :)

Hey Joe Bro, yeah, the art on the paper is mine. They're Photoshop renderings I did. I enjoyed doing those. I felt it was more descriptive to show the various forms that way. I'd like to think it helped the sculptor answer any questions he might have. Thanks for stopping by too!

Refreshing to know that someone working in a Consumer Product division actually enjoys creating product. Most artists in these divisions are frustrated animators.

Bravo, Dan!

I just bought one, and it looks cool. But you could work on the usability - it is terrible to drink from (but the handle is good).

Where I can buy these now? The disney store doesn't have them in stock and I would love a set.

Just broke my mug this morning and came across this trying to find a new one. Why did they change them? I loved this mug.
